Week 22

I now look like a miniature newborn and not an alien!! I am about 10.9 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound. I am still pretty wrinkly until I gain enough weight to fill out. My eyes are developed, though the iris (the colored part of the eye) still lacks some pigment. I even have lips that are distinct, and the first signs of teeth are appearing as buds beneath my gum line. My big sister says it hurts when the teeth actually come in after I am born, but at least I will get to eat cheese with them.

Mommy and Daddy have some pictures of me, but they aren't too clear. I have another picture session in January, so Mommy and Daddy are hoping I am more camera friendly then. The doctor was able to check all my parts and they are all there and growing like they should.

I am an international baby now. Mommy went to Canada this week and took me with her. It was cold. Over the next few weeks, I also get to go to South Carolina and Missouri (in addition to all the trips around Texas). Maybe I will grow up to be a pilot.

19 Weeks

Hello all, I am now 19 weeks old. I weigh about 8 1/2 ounces, and am 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato. My hair on my head is sprouting. This is a crucial time for sensory development: my brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. I can even hear Mommy and Daddy talk. I get to listen in when Daddy reads books to my sister every night and when Mommy sings.

Next week, I am getting a sonogram. This is the time when parents can find out if they are going to have a boy or girl baby. Mommy and Daddy have decided not to find out unless they accidently see something (which is unlikely since they aren't professional sonogram readers). Check back next weekend for pictures!

Sayings

"Children seldom misquote you. They more often repeat, word for word, what you shouldn't have said."- Mae Maloo

Week 18

I now weigh about 5.25 ounces and am 5-1/2 inches long from crown to rump, or about the size of a large pickle. I have finger prints and toe prints and can even suck my thumb. I am moving my arms and legs and Mommy can even feel me move now!
Stay tuned for my next ultrasound on Nov 30th.

No Peanut Butter

So, Mommy recently figured out that I don't like peanut butter. She feels sick every time she has a PB&J or just plain peanut butter on a spoon. If you know how much Mommy likes PB, you know that this is a tragedy and she is hoping I grow out of it. We'll see.

Beta's bullfrog

Mommy and Daddy bought me this bullfrog several weeks ago (after my first doctor's appointment). If tradition holds true, I will be a great animal lover... just like my big sister. Daddy likes my bullfrog's bow-tie.

14 Weeks

Mommy gets weekly emails so she can keep track of me. This week it says, "Your baby weighs almost one ounce, and is 3 to 4 inches in length." That about as long as a credit card. And I even have fingerprints! This picture is of a baby (not me) at 14 weeks.

The other exciting news is that I am going to have a cousin just a few weeks younger than me. My big sister has promised to show us both the ropes.

Hi there... I'm Beta.

You may already know my sister, the Pink Princess, but I'll bet you didn't know that her name was Alphi (like the Greek "Alpha") until my mom and dad knew that she was a girl. Well, this time around Mom and Dad have decided to be totally surprised... so they will be calling me Beta until I am born. I may not be fully cooked quite yet, but I will be here before you know it. Right now I am spending my days swimming around my womb. Yesterday I went to the doc, where this sonogram picture was taken. Everything is looking good. Talk to you later.
